There is a lot of buzz about CBD. Have questions? Read on if you want an introduction to how it works and suggested uses.
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compound found in the cannabis plant. THC (delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol) is also a compound in the cannabis plant. Whereas TCH produces the "high," CBD is not psychoactive. Most medicinal CBD come from the hemp plant, which is the least processed form of the cannabis plant.
How does CBD work in your body?
The endocannabinoid system is a chemical communication system in our body that responds to cannabinoids that we make naturally. It also responds to cannabinoids from outside our body, such as CBD. This system maintains homeostasis and has effect on metabolism, pain perception, mood, sleep, inflammation, memory, and immune function.
A few suggested uses for taking CBD:
Natural pain relief, anxiety and depression, anti-seizure, inflammation, insomnia, lower blood pressure, stress reduction, support during withdrawal
Acupuncture and CBD
Both acupuncture and cannabis help regulate the endocannabinoid system. They can be used together to restore balance to the body, relieve pain, and prevent disease.
What to look for on a label:
Whole plant, full-spectrum phytocannabinoid rich (PCR) hemp CBD oil is more effective than isolate. Whole plant includes all the active parts of the plant, and the effect is stronger and lasts longer.Concentration: Products have different potency. For oil extracts divide total mg by volume.
General wellness: 2.5-15 mg CBD
Chronic pain: 2.5-20 mg CBD
Sleep disorders: 40-160 mg CBD
This is a general recommendation. It is a good idea to start with lower dosing and see how your body responds.
